PART 2: Review 1 of ‘The girl before’

'The girl before' by JP Delaney.

I am writing the second part of the book review. The review might have spoilers, so if you do not want the spoilers, then come and read my review after reading this book.

The story did not end in a cliffhanger, and I am glad it didn't. Otherwise, I would still wonder who murdered and did all the crazy things. As readers, we would have accused the wrong person, thinking it was them due to their actions and enigmatic personality. I was happy with the ending as it solved the murder and gave a time break- like a few years later, Delaney gave a rounded finish which was quite relieving and left me fulfilled reading it.

There were parts where I found it difficult to care about both the woman in the story- Jane and Emma. Both women's blind love for the architect and how they did not manage or connect the dots on what was happening. Emma, the previous woman, was very frustrating for me and how each interacted with both men. I think it was way she instantly fell for him although having a boyfriend. I honestly felt Emma was too much, and when there was a monologue, Emma mentioned a few things. It might be harsh, but I thought she could have handled it better in some situations.

The story was not scary for my liking. I was very much intrigued by what was going to happen. Whilst reading each of the chapters, I was engaged and on the edge of my seat. It was one of the great books I read in a long time. I very much enjoyed this book.

Summarising this book, I loved this book. It has excellent mystery and plot twists, and it is very thrilling and captivating. The types of readers I would recommend this book to are young adults, fans of mystery stories, and intrigued. I enjoyed this because I wanted 'One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus. I will recommend 'One Step Behind' by Lauren North; I nearly forgot to mention it, but it is an underrated book, I feel so check it out, and there will be a review coming soon. Sure to check my socials for when it comes out.

Four stars out of 5.
